This piece started out with the same mechanism as used in Team Work but was too stressed by the weight and the connections in the body of the dragon. I changed it to a piston action which doesn’t allow for as much movement but is much smoother and more realistic.

The Nose Knows

This piece features an interesting mechanisms that writes a figure 8.  Originally I was going to conceal it, but upon seeing how beautiful it is I used glass as the surface instead.  In later versions the center portion of the mechanism is in the shape of a bone.  The nose really does know!

Over the years I have created many puppets and masks for theatrical performances.  Here are a few of the creations I have carved in wood.  In 2000, I traveled to Bali, Indonesia where I did a three month intensive study of traditional Balinese Mask carving.  That experience influenced my work in many ways and taught me valuable techniques that I have incorporated in to my skill set.
