The Magician and his Assistant was commissioned by two professional magicians.  I made two versions for them (one as a caricature of the client), and I made a third version for my own collection.  I wanted to have a surprise ending to this magic trick that the magician was not expecting and thus is surprised.  Perhaps I was the most surprised when making tiny eyelids was quite an undertaking.  I stretched raw hide over 3/8″ wooden balls and then sanded down the (eye)balls so the lids would slide easily.  Not an easy task, but I like the results!
